This charming area - VALSOLDA - seems untouched by the passage of time. It's part of the province of Como, in Lombardy, and is located on Lake Ceresio (or Lake Lugano) on the Italian side.
Valsolda is just a few kilometers from the Swiss border and only 30 minutes by car from Lake Como (from Menaggio specifically, a beautiful town located in the central part of the lake). From Menaggio you can easily reach all the most renowned and beloved destinations of Lake Como: Bellagio, Varenna, Como, Argegno, Tremezzo, etc.
Valsolda also has its own historic villas (Villa Fogazzaro Roi) which has many things in common with the more famous Villa Balbianello on Lake Como.
Both overlook Lombard lakes with breathtaking panoramic views: Villa Fogazzaro on Lake Lugano (Ceresio) and Villa Balbianello on Lake Como (Lario).
Both preserve almost intact the atmosphere of their last owners (who were great friends), with furnishings, collections and personal mementos that characterize the rooms.
Villa Fogazzaro inspired the novel "Piccolo mondo antico" by Antonio Fogazzaro,
while Villa Balbianello has been the location for famous films such as Star Wars and James Bond...
